New partnership between Orange Wholesale and Ceeblue

IBC 2025 Preview: See It Live at Booth 5.C43

This September at IBC 2025, Ceeblue and Orange Wholesale International (OWI) will debut a major new partnership that brings real-time video streaming to the global scale of one of the world’s most trusted infrastructure providers. The integration of Ceeblue’s open WebRTS protocol into Orange’s CDN unlocks ultra-low latency delivery with the resilience and reach of a Tier-1 carrier backbone. Live OTT sports. Live shopping. Corporate comms. Live Auctions. WebRTS brings real-time video into reach for all of them, using infrastructure that already spans the globe.

And it’s not just a slide deck. Visitors to Booth 5.C43 can see it running live on-site. Not a recorded loop. Not an offline demo with manufactured metrics. Real video, really playing, in real time, using WebRTS to stream over the Orange CDN.

From Quanteec to Orange: The Backstory

The origin of the collaboration traces back to Ceeblue’s eCDN partner Quanteec, whose hybrid peer-assisted delivery model was the first to fully adopt WebRTS. Quanteec, a longtime advocate for sustainable, low-latency video delivery, introduced Ceeblue to Orange when OWI was seeking a real-time solution for a technically demanding use case in the live shopping space.

The resulting partnership has enabled a deep integration: WebRTS is now running on-prem within Orange’s network, leveraging its expansive CDN and global edge footprint. This means better cost efficiency, lower latencies and enhanced playback resilience.

“We were impressed not just with the performance of WebRTS, but with how quickly it came together,” said Camille Stevens, CDN Product Manager at Orange Wholesale International. “Ceeblue’s team worked directly with ours over Slack to embed their tech within our network infrastructure. The result is a future-ready real-time offer that can scale for everything from sports rights holders to online commerce platforms.”

Sub-Second Latency with Global Reach

WebRTS allows broadcasters and platforms to achieve real-time latencies at massive scale, without being locked into any particular player or protocol. WebRTS was designed to work seamlessly over any standard CDN infrastructure, but when deployed on-net as with Orange, the performance improves even further.

Tests on Orange’s global backbone confirm consistent delivery well below other popular protocols like Low-Latency HLS or Low-Latency DASH. WebRTS’s adaptive live point recovery ensures playback remains smooth, even in the face of limited bandwidth. Importantly, adaptive live point recovery also prevents the head-of-line blocking that hampers other HTTP-based protocols, allowing WebRTS streams to continue uninterrupted when momentary delivery issues occur.

WebRTS also supports multi-DRM integrations, making it suitable for premium broadcast content where license enforcement and security are critical. For corporate and enterprise environments, it works seamlessly across firewalls and NATs, making it compatible with corporate networks out of the box.

And it’s not just technically sound—it’s efficient. Compared to CMAF, WebRTS is up to 5% more efficient in bandwidth usage, which translates into real savings at scale. It also optimizes usage of the origin infrastructure, reducing operational complexity and overhead. For broadcasters streaming multiple renditions or formats, that efficiency compounds quickly.

“We couldn’t be happier with how this came together,” said Danny Burns, Founder and CTO of Ceeblue. “Bringing WebRTS on-net inside the Orange network was straightforward thanks to their tech team’s openness and know-how, as well as the hard-earned experience of our own network engineers. The result is a real-time video platform that just works, at global scale.”

Who It’s For: Key Real-Time Video Use Cases

The Ceeblue + OWI real-time solution targets sectors where video latency equals lost value:

  • Live Sports Streaming: Deliver game action without spoilers from apps or social media.
  • Live Commerce & Shopping: Drive conversions through synchronous interactivity with customers, influencer campaigns and product drops.
  • Live auctions: guaranteed bid synchronization between remote and on-site bidders.
  • Corporate Communications: Real-time Q&A and polls, internal broadcasts, and live decision-making.

But those aren’t the only use cases. Interactive education platforms can use WebRTS to deliver responsive lectures with zero classroom lag, and financial services firms can run investor briefings or market updates with confidence that everyone sees the same information at the same time.

The offer initially targets Europe, Africa, and MENA, but is globally scalable wherever Orange operates.

See It in Action: Live WebRTS Demo at IBC

Ceeblue and OWI will be presenting a live WebRTS/Orange CDN demo at IBC 2025. The tech will be running live on-screen at Booth 5.C43.

WebRTS content being delivered over the Orange CDN will be showcased at the event, with a focus on:

  • Real-time latency over Orange’s CDN
  • Playback resilience even with throttled bandwidth
  • Massive scale and device compatibility

Trade show demos are often engineered to minimize risk, showing off a sanitized version of the real thing. That’s not what’s happening here. The Ceeblue/OWI demo at IBC will reflect the actual setup used in production scenarios—same ingest, same delivery paths, same quality expectations. We’re actually thrilled to be able to leverage the massive, oversaturated network at the RAI Amsterdam to show off WebRTS’s resilience.

Developer-Friendly, Operationally Efficient

WebRTS isn’t just fast—it’s practical. For developers, integration is straightforward thanks to an open-source client library that supports native HTML5 playback and includes a ready-to-use Video.js plugin. Teams can get started quickly without integrating a new player or building around opaque SDKs. The API is developer-friendly and supports real-time configuration, enabling dynamic changes to playback behavior without restarting streams or hardcoding options.

On the operations side, WebRTS avoids many of the pitfalls of traditional real-time protocols. There’s no need to manage custom encoders, proxy servers, or proprietary playback chains. It works over standard HTTP workflows, making it easy to integrate into existing streaming pipelines and CDN strategies. Because it’s open, there’s no vendor lock-in—and no costly license agreements or royalty fees to pay. Whether you’re scaling up a public-facing broadcast or embedding secure video into a live commerce app, WebRTS reduces long-term maintenance overhead, offering a sustainable path to real-time video at scale.

What Sets WebRTS Apart

  • Open Protocol — No CDN or player lock-in
  • No Proprietary Player — Native playback across devices
  • Telco-Grade Infrastructure — Integrated into Orange’s CDN backbone
  • Adaptive Live Point Recovery — Resilient even under congestion
  • Head-of-Line Blocking Avoidance — Keeps real-time playback flowing despite delivery hiccups
  • Multi-DRM Compatible — Ideal for premium and protected content
  • Corporate Network Friendly — No friction across firewalls or NATs
  • More Efficient than CMAF — 5% savings in bandwidth
  • Low Origin Overhead — Simplifies infrastructure and ops
  • Truly Scalable Real-Time — Doesn’t require high-cost, complex specialty CDNs

At its core, WebRTS is a modern framework for sub-500ms video delivery that was purpose-built to address the shortcomings of both traditional HTTP streaming and more fragile UDP-based protocols. Unlike CMAF and HLS, which rely on large segment buffers that introduce seconds of delay, WebRTS delivers fine-grained segments in an HTTP format that’s optimized for caching and distribution. It can even skip frames intelligently during congestion to stay aligned with the live edge—keeping experiences sharp, immersive, and in sync. And unlike WebRTC, which excels at two-way interactions but is difficult to scale, WebRTS is infinitely scalable over any standards-based CDN.

Performance isn’t just about speed—it’s about consistency, compatibility, and cost. WebRTS supports PlayReady, FairPlay, and Widevine DRM out of the box, and can maintain sub-second latency even with protected content. It runs natively in browsers with no proprietary player required, and its containerless format cuts bandwidth by 5% compared to CMAF, reducing delivery costs. Combined with reduced origin load, more efficient demuxing, and a clean integration path using a developer-friendly API and Video.js plugin, WebRTS offers not just the best performance in its class, but the most sustainable way to deliver it.
